The major of Translation & Interpreting has abundant qualified teachers. Among them, one professor is a member of the Sichuan Teaching Guidance Committee for Foreign Languages and Literature Majors, one professor is a candidate for Sichuan Academic and Technical Leaders, one associate professor is a director of the Sichuan Translators Association, and many of them were awarded in national and provincial teaching competitions. The teachers have rich practical experience in interpretation and translation. They have not only undertaken interpretation work for large-scale international conferences, but also have experience in translation of over one million words.

The major has the Sichuan Provincial-level First-Class Course American Literature. Translation major focuses on the combination with CUIT’s advantageous disciplines, cultivates competent application-type translation professionals who have good moral and professional quality, solid English-Chinese bilingual knowledge and ability, English-Chinese interpretation and translation skills, and intercultural communication skills, interpersonal skills and translation proficiency.

After graduation, graduates are expected to achieve the following goals in the social and professional fields: 1. Be qualified for the relevant language service in the information technology industry and business field. 2. Be qualified for the daily translation and interpretation in the field of language services. 3. Be qualified for the average interpretation and translation or other cross-cultural communication activities in the fields of foreign affairs, economy, trade, education, culture, science and technology.

Main Courses

Major Compulsory Courses: Comprehensive English, English Writing, English Grammar, Research Methods and Academic Writing, Intercultural Communication, Topic Translation: Practice, Topic Interpreting: Practice, Business English Translation, Computer-Aided Translation, and so on.

Major Optional Courses: Science and Technology Translation, Tourism Translation, Translation for International Affairs, Consecutive Interpreting, Sight Interpreting, Introduction to European Culture, Operation of Translation Software, and so on.

Historical Evolution:

 In 2014, the English major of the School of Foreign Languages set up the “Translation” direction.

In 2018, the “Translation” direction of the English major was approved to be independently set as the major of Translation & Interpreting.
