Research Team of Translation Theory and Practice

1. Introduction

The Research Team of Theory and Practice is one of the main research teams of the School of Foreign Languages at CUIT. The team consists of renowned experts and experienced teachers including three professors, four PhDs, eight associate professors, 15 lecturers and three teaching assistants. Carrying the feature of CUIT, the team is on service with translation discipline development, aiming to integrate translation theory and practice into disciplinary teaching. In recent years, it has gained great progress thus made significant contributions to the growth of translation discipline in the School of Foreign Languages.

The team’s main research covers following fields: 1. Translation theory and practice; 2. Teaching translation; 3. Computer-aided translation and its application; 4. Translators training; 5. Specialized translation corpora and other translation study fields.


2. Team leader

The team leader Professor Tan Jie holds the membership of both teaching steering committee of CUIT and academic committee of the school. He is nominated the seventh batch of academic and technical leaders in Panzhihua city and gained the title of “double-qualified teacher”. He is also invited by China West Normal University as an MTI dissertation review expert. He has presided five provincial research programs and participated over ten municipal research programs. Among his publications, there is one monograph, two translated books and six textbooks. He also published more than 20 academic papers with nine on national core journals. His translated work Harvard Classics (Volume 33: Voyages and Travels: Ancient and Modern) and Harvard Classics (Volumes 50: Lectures on the Harvard Classics) have won the first prize in the “Fourth Tianfu Translation Award for Outstanding Works” in 2015. Prof. Tan has accumulated rich academic translation experiences from his work, which counted nearly a million of words.


3. Latest 5 years achievements

Articles publication: there are more than 100 articles published in the last five years including one on A&HCI journals, five on international journals, 13 on CSSCI journals, 32 on Peking University CORE journals, and more than 70 on other quality journals.

Books, monographs and compilations: Five monographs, more than 20 translated books, 16 textbooks (two on the national planning list), and 7 compilations are published by the team members.

Scientific study: 13 provincial programs, 22 municipal programs, and 36 university programs are carried out with great performance.

Awards and honors: Team members have won 16 awards at all levels.

Scientific research funding: Over 2 million

Supplements: A wechat platform named “Traditional -Chinese- Culture Translation Learning Club” (Trans-culture) is under implementation with updating frequency twice a month.
