The School of Foreign Languages Held the Preliminary Round of the 29th China Daily "21st Century Cup" National English Speaking Competition

On April 25th, the preliminary round (CUIT campus competition final) of the 29th China Daily "21st Century Cup" National English Speaking Competition organized by the School of Foreign Languages was successfully held in the Lecture Hall of the CUIT Hangkonggang Campus.

China Daily's "21st Century Cup" National English Speaking Competition is sponsored by the China Daily newspaper and organized by the 21st Century English Education Media, aiming to improve the ability of Chinese youth to tell China’s stories well and pool the power of youth to promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

75 students from different majors signed up for this year’s "21st Century Cup" National English Speech Competition and submitted their speech and videos to the official online platform. After careful evaluation of the panel of judges, the top ten contestants were selected for the campus competition final and competed for the two places to advance to the 21st Century Cup" National English Speaking Competition Regional Final in Sichuan and Chongqing.

The campus competition final was divided into three parts: the prepared speech, impromptu speech and the question-and-answer session. In the prepared speech session, ten contestants presented their views on the theme of "The Revival of Traditional Culture”. In the impromptu speech session, they presented their opinions on different topics. In the Q&A session, they answered two questions from the Question Masters. After nearly two hours of intense competition, Xie Yanjia from the School of Foreign Languages and Lin Huanzhu from the School of Atmospheric Science won the Grand Prize and got the opportunity to participate in the "21st Century Cup" National English Speaking Competition Regional Final in Sichuan and Chongqing.

This competition is a great opportunity for the students to practice their English public speaking ability and cross-cultural thinking ability. It enhances students' ability to tell China’s stories effectively in English by providing a platform for the students to showcase their English proficiency and public speaking skills.
