
On September 25th, the campus final of the 2025 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup ‘Understanding Contemporary China’ International Communication Contest” (English Speaking Competition) was successfully held in the Lecture Hall of the Hangkonggang Campus at Chengdu University of Information Technology (CUIT). The competition was jointly organized by the Academic Affairs Office, the Graduate School, and the School of Foreign Languages.
The competition attracted 40 students from diverse academic backgrounds, who submitted video speeches for the preliminary round. After a rigorous review by the judging panel, 18 contestants advanced to the campus final, with 12 participating in the live event to compete for two spots in the upcoming provincial contest.
The final consisted of three segments: a prepared speech, an impromptu speech, and a Q&A session. In the first round of prepared speech, the contestants elaborated on the theme "Strike the Waves", showcasing the innovative spirit and practical experiences of contemporary youth. The top 8 contestants then advanced to the second round of impromptu speech and Q&A sessions, where they presented their perspectives on assorted topics and answered one question from the Question Master.
During the award ceremony, foreign teacher Mr. Jalil delivered closing remarks. He congratulated all participants, praised their confidence and enthusiasm, and provided constructive feedback. Mr. Jalil also encouraged more students to engage in such competitions to enhance their comprehensive abilities.
After nearly two hours of intense competition, Wang Jingxian and Zhang Jiayu from the School of Foreign Languages won the Gold Award and got the opportunity to participate in the provincial final.
The event served not only to enhance the participants' public speaking, critical thinking, and cross-cultural communication skills but also deepened their understanding of China's development and the responsibilities of contemporary youth.
